Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a process of shared decision-making between clinicians and patients based on research evidence, the patient's experiences and preferences, and the clinician's clinical expertise. We are now well beyond the Institute of Medicine (IOM) goal that 90% of healthcare be evidence-based by 2020 (IOM, 2010), and a gap persists.
