Abstract
Cancer survivors are returning to the workplace in higher numbers than ever before. This is a positive outcome of the "war on cancer", however, many of these cancer survivors face the possibility of illness- or treatment-related complications; employer discrimination or harassment; and other serious concerns. Work and Cancer Survivors reviews many of the issues relevant to cancer survivors in the workplace from the survivors?, employers?, and global perspectives. This interdisciplinary volume brings together experts in fields as varied as epidemiology, economics, rehabilitation, psychology, ergonomics, law and public policy to create a unique, up-to-date reference of what is currently known and what needs to be considered in the future. With this knowledge, challenges faced by this growing population can be better addressed by health care providers, employers, survivors and their families.

Notes
Chapter 6 Cancer includes a section on Adverse Health Outcomes in Cancer Patients and Survivors. The conclusions of this section are (p. 291):
"1. In cancer patients and survivors, the evidence is sufficient to infer a causal relationship between cigarette smoking and adverse health outcomes. Quitting smoking improves the prognosis of cancer patients.
2. In cancer patients and survivors, the evidence is sufficient to infer a causal relationship between cigarette smoking and increased all-cause mortality and cancer-specific mortality.
3. In cancer patients and survivors, the evidence is sufficient to infer a causal relationship between cigarette smoking and increased risk for second primary cancers known to be caused by cigarette smoking, such as lung cancer.
4. In cancer patients and survivors, the evidence is suggestive but not sufficient to infer a causal relationship between cigarette smoking and (1) the risk of recurrence, (2) poorer response to treatment, and (3) increased treatment-related toxicity."

Abstract
"This book has been designed to help cancer patients, especially those with intellectual disabilities, or who understand pictures better than words, to understand what is happening to them. It explains the sequence of events from experiencing symptoms, going to the GP, being referred to hospital and having an X-ray, common cancer treatments and their side-effects, and recovery. It can be used to start talking about the difficult feelings involved as well as to give practical information. The pictures are in sequence and can be used either by way of preparation or as a way of helping the patient make sense of what has already happened. Using this book while you are giving information will enable the patient to ask appropriate questions, and help obtain truly informed consent" -- p. 65
