Abstract
"This book has been designed to help cancer patients, especially those with intellectual disabilities, or who understand pictures better than words, to understand what is happening to them. It explains the sequence of events from experiencing symptoms, going to the GP, being referred to hospital and having an X-ray, common cancer treatments and their side-effects, and recovery. It can be used to start talking about the difficult feelings involved as well as to give practical information. The pictures are in sequence and can be used either by way of preparation or as a way of helping the patient make sense of what has already happened. Using this book while you are giving information will enable the patient to ask appropriate questions, and help obtain truly informed consent" -- p. 65
