Abstract
This book guides medical researchers through all stages of transforming their scientific data and ideas into a published paper. Many researchers in medicine, including the life sciences and health sciences, struggle to get their research written and published. Manuscripts are typically rejected and/or sent back for revisions several times before ever being published. One reason for this is that researchers have not received much instruction in the specific subjects and skills needed to write and publish scientific medical papers: research methodology, ethics, statistics, data visualization, writing, revising, and the practicalities of publishing.
Contents:
Chapter 1: Introduction; References; Chapter 2: The Ethical Foundations of Medical Scientific Writing; Introduction; Moral Vices and Virtues; Responding to Ethical Misconduct; Conclusion; References; Part I: Preparing; Chapter 3: Ethics of Conducting Research; Introduction; Ethics Committee Approval; Study Registration; Written Informed Consent and Animal Welfare; Following Ethical Guidelines; Conclusion; References; Chapter 4: Foresight; References; Chapter 5: Time; References; Chapter 6: Reading; References; Chapter 7: Searching the Literature; References

Abstract
Many researchers dread writing. They find it laborious - even painful - to put their scholarly work into words. They get bogged down in the study, and lose track of the story. And they produce uninspiring papers that fail to resonate with readers or reviewers. This book offers an antidote to this problem: brief, accessible lessons that guide researchers to write clear and compelling scientific manuscripts. The book is divided into three sections: Story, Craft, and Community. The Story section offers advice on getting the balance of study and story just right, introducing strategies for tackling each section of a scientific manuscript. The Craft section considers the grammatical and rhetorical tools of the trade, showing how they can be wielded for maximum impact. And the Community section offers suggestions for writing collaboratively, supporting other writers, and navigating peer review. Each section features multiple short and pragmatic lessons, peppered with illustrative examples. -- Provided by publisher.
