Abstract
"The moving, inspiring story of a young husband and father who, when diagnosed with terminal cancer at the age of thirty-three, sets out to build a legacy for his infant son...Powerful and unvarnished, drawing on her conversations with Layton, and his own writing, This Is Not the End of Me contains moments of great beauty and humour, and addresses the consequences of fearing death and what we can gain by accepting its inevitability, as well as reminding us of what it means to live."-- Provided by publisher

Abstract
This classic book introduced the author's seminal "stages of dying" or "stages of grief" model which is still widely quoted. According to the model, there are five stages that a dying person goes through when they are told that they have a terminal illness. The five stages go in progression through denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. This model has been widely adopted by other authors and applied to many other situations where someone suffers a loss or change in social identity.

Abstract
"Dr. Kathryn Mannix has studied and practiced palliative care for thirty years. In With the End in Mind, she shares beautifully crafted stories from a lifetime of caring for the dying, and makes a compelling case for the therapeutic power of approaching death not with trepidation, but with openness, clarity, and understanding. Weaving the details of her own experiences as a caregiver through stories of her patients, their families, and their distinctive lives, Dr. Mannix reacquaints us with the universal, but deeply personal, process of dying." -- Back cover
