Abstract
This book was written to educate individuals diagnosed with a serious medical condition along with their loved ones about the importance of palliative care. The work outlines what palliative care is, provides communication strategies for getting the type of support and care that you want and need (and not just medications), outlines successful coping strategies, and discusses family dynamics, grieving, emotional support, and spirituality. Although palliative care is often associated with hospice and end-of-life planning, the author argues for a more expanded definition that includes improved quality of life at early as well as later stages of the disease process.

Abstract
"How To Be A Cancer Patient delivers universal tools, in an easy to understand format, that addresses these vital needs for patients with any type of cancer diagnosis. The easy-to-use tools and strategies were developed through the experiences of a process driven cancer survivor who endured two surgeries, 15+ days of inpatient hospital stays for chemo and complications and 15 doses of radiation. It also includes honest, raw and sometimes hilarious accounts on how these tools were developed during the course of a LOT of cancer treatment."-- From Amazon

Abstract
"What's the difference between targeted therapy and immunotherapy? If you're a melanoma patient, you should know. Unfortunately, most melanoma literature focuses on prevention. Patients receive a terrifying, life-threatening diagnosis and subsequently find a scarcity of information on treatment options. Melanoma: Not Just Skin Cancer is the book to fill that void. Written by a melanoma survivor with extensive knowledge of breakthrough technologies, scientific research, clinical trials, and patient empowerment, it's a comprehensive guide to navigating melanoma treatment. Real-life success stories will inspire patients to fight for their own health and remind them that they are not alone. Catherine M. Poole survived a melanoma diagnosis twenty-five years ago. Yale University Press published her first book on this topic, Melanoma Prevention, Detection, and Treatment, in 1998 and a revised edition in 2005. Today, she's a noted expert on melanoma treatment and an advocate for research and patient empowerment"--Back cover

Abstract
As a health-care journalist, Kate Pickert knew the emotional highs and lows of medical treatment well -- but always from a distance, through the stories of her subjects. That is, until she was unexpectedly diagnosed with an aggressive type of breast cancer at the age of 35. As she underwent more than a year of treatment, Pickert realized that the popular understanding of breast care in America bears little resemblance to the experiences of today''s patients and the rapidly changing science designed to save their lives. After using her journalistic skills to navigate her own care, Pickert embarked on a quest to understand the cultural, scientific and historical forces shaping the lives of breast-cancer patients in the modern age. - Provided by publisher.

Abstract
"This book provides you with what you need to sleep well. Be encouraged, even if you have had insomnia for many years, that the techniques that I will show you have been scientifically studied for years and they are effective for improving sleep. The techniques in this book are designed to let your internal sleep-wake rhythms operate naturally, without interference. By relying on them, rather than over-thinking or trying to control sleep, you too will find that something changes, allowing the velvet hammer of sleep to descend"-- Provided by publisher

Abstract
In 1986, twenty-three men and women, all with a personal connection to cancer, came together for a weekend summit. Their goal was not to cure the disease, but to destroy its myths. The creation of the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS) that weekend launched the cancer survivorship movement, and forever changed the definition of what it means to be a ?survivor.? Twelve years later it led to a march on Washington, D.C., of more than 200,000 people. Part medical history, part inspirational biography, From Shadows to Life is the story of a social movement that continues to improve life for millions.--Back cover.

Abstract
When Henry Scowcroft's partner Zarah was diagnosed with stage IV bladder cancer in her mid-thirties, their world fell apart. In order to cope with the upheaval as they endured scans, aggressive chemotherapy and hospital stays, Henry began writing down and sharing their experiences with friends and family. His day job as a writer for the charity Cancer Research UK helped him to explain everything he was learning from the coalface of cancer treatment - including Zarah's diagnosis and their rollercoaster journey through the health system. After Zarah's untimely death Henry found some closure and comfort by trying to learn more about her cancer from scientific analysis of the test results and biopsies taken during her treatment and enlisted a team of doctors and researchers to help him. Could he have done more? How did Zarah's tumour develop? Could there be a legacy from her death that would help others diagnosed with cancer? This heart-wrenching memoir of love and loss is interspersed with Henry's mission to understand the cancer that took his partner too soon. -- Page 2 of cover

Abstract
The Living Room, which draws its name from a virtual support group live-streamed internationally once a month by [author's] foundation, tells the stories of twenty lung cancer patients who have bravely fought the disease and found ways to thrive, not just to survive. The goal of Bonnie's efforts is to break down the barriers and stigmas associated with lung cancer and demonstrate how the new wave of treatment options are moving to make it a manageable disease. -- Provided by publisher.
